“”The Music of Chance / Slumpens Musik“” (Sundbyberg, 2008)

May 3 - June 8, 2008
Opening: Sat May 3 at 15.00  LANDINGS proudly presents the first solo exhibition in Norway of the Swedish artist Viktor Rosdahl, featuring three recent projects. The photographic series “”The Music of Chance / Slumpens Musik“” (Sundbyberg, 2008), the film “Ghost in the Wall” (with Anton Wiraeus), and “Hole in the Wall”, consisting of a photograph and a painting. All works engage painting and its potential (or not) in public spaces.

The title of the exhibition is taken from Rosdahls most recent project, “”The Music of Chance / Slumpens Musik“” (Sundbyberg, 2008), which consists of five photographs of a commissioned mural at the Sundbyberg subway. Sundbyberg is a suburb of Stockholm and the mural was painted in the early 1970s. Since then, several generations of graffiti artists have made their impact on the wall, and the mural painting stands today as 50% commissioned mural, and 50% removed graffiti from the 1980s, 90s and 00s.

The result can be read as an unintentional collaboration between different artistic practices, political views, social classes and cultural states in a sort of sporadically changing public canvas.

Viktor Rosdahl lives and works in Stockholm and Malmö. Recent exhibitions include solo exhibitions at Galleri Magnus Åklundh, Malmö and Arnstedt & Kullgren Gallery. Rosdahl was also recently part of the CROSSKICK exhibition at Hannover Kunstverein, ”På plats mitt i det upplevda, måleri idag” at Ystad Konsthall and ended his IASPIS recidency in Stockholm in March this year. Upcoming exhibitions include amongst others a solo at the Aerea Gallery in Stockholm and “Headlines & Footnotes”, a group show at Hennie Onstad Art Centre.

Landings is a new artist run projectspace for contemporary art situated in Vestfossen. On two levels of a total of 50m2, Landings will offer artists, curators and writers an independent space for research and discourse.
